Experience the music - Thu 27th of April 2017
DMITRY I. - Interview
June 20, 2010

We talk with Dmitry i., the man behind two new and interesting musical proposals into the electronic/industrial scene.

Come with us and find out what is spinning around the Dmitry's mind.

Tell us, at what age did start your interest in making music?

Well, I think I was 14-15 when I have received two Marilyn Manson albums from Art (Freakangel) and somewhere in this time we both have started showing our interest in playing musical instruments, and now after ten years of friendship you can see us actually kicking asses side by side in Freakangel.

There are many musicians inspired by a trend but then they make another kind of music (many rockers like classical music), what are your influences?

Yes, its true. That happens pretty often. For my influences I can call Alice Cooper or Marilyn Manson, for example. To be true I was raised on a Russian music from 60-70 as my father is a big fan of those Russian Beatles a like bands, but then again I am not sure that they have played any part in my musical education.

How Freakangel and Suicidal Romance were born?

I clearly remember how it was with Suicidal Romance. I was playing around with CuBase and have done something that could be called a song. That was my first song written via this program, so I have showed it to some friends, that said that "hey, its a cool track... blahblahblah". Anyway, that's how Suidical Romance was born. Freakangel, well, I have started Freakangel right after "Shattered Heart Reflections" was ready. Fr0zen have found some of my demo tracks and gave an idea of creating a band together. That's how it was.

Do you collaborate with other projects?

Sometimes, when there is a need. I mean, I am always very open for such things.

Have you shared the stage with some important band? Which one?

Important? Important for who? For me? No... :)

What is the topic that inspired the lyrics in your compositions?

All lyrics for "Shattered Heart Reflections" were done by Maarja Korstnik so it is better to ask her about this question as I gave her total freedom this time over lyrics, but overall they have a romantic subplots, but without any big cliches, pure human feelings. About Freakangel I can tell you that our lyrics are a protest to our world order that is ruled blindly by social norms that are against everything that is so important for non ignorant human beings.

Why are you best known in Russia than elsewhere in Europe? Do you think that change is a matter of time?

Because of pirates like Mr. Jack Sparrow. I think, that Russia is a country number one for piracy. So it makes everything kinda logical here. They don't buy and don't look for releases or something. They just download them what makes everything very simple. I think thats why, but then again it is all a promotion anyway.

What are your plans for Freakangel and Suicidal Romance?

We are already working on a new material for Freakangel and I think that pretty soon I will start realizing my ideas for a new Suicidal Romance and might happen so that some of those releases will be final.

Any tour in mind?

I have always tours in mind, but it looks like with our so called crisis it is pretty hard to build a tour or something as everyone is afraid of booking newcomer bands even if I do not think that Suicidal Romance is a newcomer band anymore, but well, future will tell.

Your favorite song of each project?

Few seconds of silence between tracks.

What band or artist would you like someday to play with?

Mötley Crüe?

Out of curiosity, do you use any software or real synthesizers to compose? If you are from the Old School using gears, which one?

I'm working only with software and with real bass/guitars sometimes, thats all.

Thanks Dmitry for your kindness. We wish you all the best and success with your projects.

Thank you.
